Sources first

Every cost, rule, permit requirement, statistic or deadline on this site comes from a source we opened ourselves. We prefer primary sources: Miami-Dade DERM, the cities of Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale, the Town of Jupiter, Islamorada, Broward and Monroe Counties, Florida DEP, the Florida Statutes, the Army Corps of Engineers, FEMA, FWC and equipment manufacturers. Each page lists its sources with the date we opened them.

Secondary figures are labelled

Where no government figure exists, such as boat lift and dock prices, we use an industry cost guide and say so next to the number, with its scope (national or South Florida) and year.

Old numbers carry their year

Some of the best seawall cost data is from 2016 and 2017 city documents. We show the year beside every figure so you can see how old it is.

What we do not know, we say

If we could not confirm something, such as a city's current seawall height rule or the status of a federal permit, we say that rather than guess.

Dates

Pages show a "Last updated" date. When a figure or rule changes, we update the page and the date.

Images

Images on this site are illustrations. They are never captioned or presented as finished projects, real crews or real customers.

Local pages

Each city page carries rules and conditions specific to that city. If we have nothing specific to say about a place, we do not publish a page for it.
